Sprogcenter (Danish school) and Vejle

It's been a week since I started Danish school in Vejle, so I should share a bit of the experience in here! I study only with foreigners, but there are all really cool and receptive, some with more dificulties with the language, some with less. Some of us walk to class together, and have lunch and/or walk through the city also together, and it has been great! We learn simple things in there, like how to introduce ourselves, questions and useful vocabulary for exchange students...

The city of Vejle is very different from what I was used to in Brazil, because of its location (by the sea) or by the people's behaviour: in there (as well in the rest of Denmark) the pedestrians don't cross the street when the light is red, even when there are no cars coming; bikes and cars lve in harmony and there's no need to worry a lot about walking about with backpacks or holding your phone in the middle of the street!

I'm changing families on Friday and then going to Introcamp on Sunday with all the other inbounds, so I'll get a chance to update here soon!

Bem, hoje faz uma semana que comecei a escola de dinamarquês em Vejle, então acho de devo compartilhar um pouco da experiência aqui! Estudo só com estrangeiros lá, mas todos são muito legais e receptivos, alguns com mais dificuldade com a língua, outros menos. Alguns de nós andamos pra aula juntos, e depois almoçamos e/ou andamos pela cidade juntos, e tem sido ótimo! Lá aprendemos coisas simples, tipo como nos introduzirmos aos outros, perguntas e vocabulário útil pra intercambistas...

A cidade de Vejle é bem diferente do que eu estava acostumado lá no Brasil, seja pela localização geográfica (no mar) ou pelo comportamento das pessoas: lá (assim como no resto da DK) os pedestres não atravessam no vermelho, mesmo se não há pedestres vindo; bicicletas e carros convivem em harmonia e não é necessário se preocupar muito com andar com mochilas ou usar celulares no meio da rua!

Vou mudar de família essa sexta e no domingo parto pro Introcamp com todos os outros inbouds daqui, e com certeza escreverei aqui sobre ele e colocarei fotos!

First days!

This post will be a little longer than usual, but I need to do some updates since I made it to Denmark!

Our flight till Amsterdam was awesome, we were (almost) all seated together and we spend almost the whole night chatting; some (including me) tried to sleep but we gave up after...

We made it to the amazing Schiphol airport, full of stores, people, places to sit down and, of course, the well-educated Dutch people, who helped us a lot on getting around that huge airport, and that were really nice to us in our flight! On our way to Billund, me and my friend (sitting right behind me) caught the eyes of the couples sitting by our sides because of our blazers, and we talked a lot with them! By my side there was an English couple from the Manchester area, and by her side, a Danish couple.

My arrival was pretty good, Claus and Tove (my counsellor and his wife), plus three of my other families' host brothers were there waiting for me!

There's not much to talk about yesterday because I spent most of it tired due to jet-lag, but we had lunch with my other host family over here, and I got the chance to know them better, especially my younger host brother! They looked very forward to have me in their home as I am to stay over there!!

Today we went to Horsens to hand out my documents to the Danish authorities, and after that we went to Vejle so I could meet my teacher there in the school, which is by the way really big and modern! Shortly after I was driven to Jelling with the Rotary members and the Youth Camp; this city is considered the birth site of Denmark, as king Gorm, the Viking king, wrote down the name of the country for the first time at a Rune stone, and also where he was buried by his son, Harald Blåtand, or Bluetooth (I can explain the relation if someone wants me to hahah)

Speaking of modernity, I'm finding everything here really modern and functional, from the houses to street crossings and other small details...

I'm finished for now, but in the weekend I'll speak a bit about the Danish course!

Primeiros dias!

Esse post será um pouco longo, mas preciso atualizar um pouco já que muita coisa aconteceu desde que cheguei aqui!

Nosso vôo até Amsterdam foi muito bom, estávamos (quase) todos sentados perto e ficamos praticamente a noite inteira conversando; alguns (inclusive eu) tentamos dormir mas depois desistimos...

Conhecemos o incrível aeroporto de Schiphol, cheio de lojas, pessoas, lugares pra sentar e claro, a educação do povo holandês, que nos ajudou bastante a circular por aquele imenso aeroporto, e que também nos atendeu muito bem no vôo! No avião pra Billund, eu e a minha amiga (ela estava atrás de mim) chamamos a atenção dos casais sentados ao nosso lado, e ficamos quase o vôo inteiro conversando com eles! Do meu lado havia um casal inglês da região de Manchester e do lado dela, um casal de dinamarqueses.

Minha chegada aqui foi super boa, fui recebido em Billund pelo meu conselheiro, Claus, sua esposa, Tove, e três dos meus host brothers da outra família!

Não há muito o que falar do dia de ontem, já que passei a maior parte dele cansado devido ao jet-lag, mas almoçamos com meus host parents da outra família, e tive a chance de conhecer eles e meu host brother mais novo, e todos nos demos muito bem e eles pareciam muito contentes de poder me hospedar, assim como eu estou contente de morar com eles!

Hoje fomos à Horsens para realizar alguns trâmites da minha residência aqui, e encontrei lá outros dois intercambiários do meu distrito daqui, e depois fomos à Vejle para a minha "reunião" com um professor da escola, que por sinal é bem grande e moderna! Depois fui à Jelling com o pessoal do Rotary; essa cidade é considerada o berço da Dinamarca, pois foi lá onde o rei Gorm escreveu o nome do país pela primeira vez, e foi onde ele foi enterrado por seu filho, Harald Blåtand, ou em inglês, Bluetooth (posso explicar a relação pra quem quiser kkkkk).

Falando em modernidade, estou achando tudo aqui muito funcional e moderno, desde as casas até cruzamentos na rua e outros pequenos detalhes...

Terminei por agora, mas no final da semana falarei um pouco sobre o curso de dinamarquês que começarei na quarta!

Amanhã!

Então é isso... Hoje foi meu último dia no Brasil! Nem consigo acreditar direito o tanto que o tempo passou rápido desde que julho começou, tanto que me vejo agora de malas prontas, check-in feito e viagem pra São Paulo marcada, mas sem saber direito o que sentir! Vejo pessoas que choram, pessoas que se desesperam, enfim, uma miríade de sentimentos, mas eu simplesmente não sinto nada extremo, mas uma felicidade de ter finalmente chegado à esse ponto, e de ver tudo isso à minha frente!

Ele me espera amanhã!!

Já recebi três emails sobre meus compromissos lá na Dinamarca, e além disso, hoje fui na minha escola para vê-la uma vez mais e muitos me desejaram boa viagem e boa sorte; essas duas coisas fizeram com que hoje a minha ficha começasse a cair e eu percebesse que a hora tinha chegado!

Mas enfim, meu próximo post será já na Dinamarca!! Hoje eu digo "oi" e "tchau", mas à partir de sábado direi "hej" e "vi ses"!

So, that's it.... Today was my last day in Brazil! I can't believe straight how time passed fast since July started, and now I see myself with my suitcases packed, checked-in on my flights and the trip to the airport scheduled, but with no idea how to feel about it! I see people crying, getting desperate, a lot of feelings, but I don't feel nothing extreme, but happy for finally reaching this point and for seeing all of it right upon me!

It awaits me tomorrow!!

I already received three emails with my schedules in Denmark, and today I've visited my school to see it one more time before I leave and many people wished me a good trip and good luch; those things made it possible for me to realise that the time had arrived!

With that said, my next post will be in Denmark!! Today I say "hi" and "bye", but from Saturday I'll be saying "hej" and "vi ses"!

My life in Brazil

This post will be a little different than the other ones, but a friend of mine suggested me to talk a bit about my life here in Brazil, and I liked the idea!

I live in a city of 440.000 inhabitants in inner São Paulo state, called São José do Rio Preto (roughly translated as Saint Joseph of the Black River). It was classified some times as one of the best cities in Brazil to live, getting the 2nd place in one of the surveys! I like here a lot, even though we're far from many things (440km from the state capital). The mean temperature in summer is 28-30ºC, and all year round is 25ºC. I'm also realy excited but with no idea how to see the fact that I never left my city before, let alone to live in another country!

My school in here is called Colégio Agostiniano São José, a private school from Kindergarten to High School that is managed by Agostinian priests. I've been studying there since 2007 and I like there a lot, and many people know me since my first year, and teachers (special thanks for all!), colleagues, everyone is cheering for me!



Letting this life aside for a year isn't an easy task, but I'm looking forward to make the most of my year abroad!

Minha vida no Brasil

Vou um pouco na contramão do propósito desse blog nesse post, mas me sugeriram colocar um pouco sobre minha vida aqui no Brasil no blog e eu gostei da ideia!

Moro numa cidade de 440 mil habitantes no interior de São Paulo, chamada São José do Rio Preto. Já foi classificada algumas vezes como uma das melhores cidades do Brasil para se viver, tendo ficado em segundo em um desses levantamentos! Gosto muito daqui, apesar de estamos longe de muitas coisas (440km de São Paulo). A temperatura média no verão é de uns 28 a 30°C, e do ano no geral de 25°C. Estou animado mas sem ideia de como encarar o fato de que eu nunca morei fora daqui, imagina em outro país!

A minha escola aqui se chama Colégio Agostiniano São José, uma escola particular do Ensino Infantil ao Médio que é gerida por padres da Ordem Agostiniana. Estudo lá desde 2007 e gosto bastante de lá, e muitos me conhecem desde que eu entrei lá, e professores, colegas, estão todos torcendo por mim no intercâmbio!



Deixar essa vida de lado por um ano não é a coisa mais fácil de se fazer, mas quero aproveitar esse ano ao máximo!!
